To celebrate the 200th performance of Gale Edwards’ production of La Bohème, Opera Australia is offering 200 opera tickets for just 200 cents each in a bid to encourage people to experience a world-class opera production at the Sydney Opera House for the first time.
This is one of the many initiatives run by Opera Australia to entice the opera-curious art lover to take the plunge into the exciting and entertaining world of opera.
“For years now Opera Australia has been deeply committed to ensuring that people from all walks
of life can access the excitement and drama of this incredible art form, for little or no cost.
“Schemes like the $20 Susan & Isaac Wakil Foundation Access Program and our Opera for Students program aim to bring the magic of opera to newcomers. And there is no better way to experience opera for the first time than this wonderful production of La Bohème in the Sydney Opera House,” said Opera Australia CEO Fiona Allan.
This production of La Bohème by award-winning designers Brian Thomson and Julie Lynch premiered in 2011 and soon became one of OA’s most beloved productions.
It opened again in January 2023 in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House, and it’s still a crowd favourite.
An all-star cast performs Puccini’s breathtaking music and heartbreaking tale about bohemian romance that remains relevant today.
Making the evening even more enjoyable are the moments when attendees unexpectedly recognise tunes and storylines frequenting today’s pop culture, as Puccini’s opera-inspired films such as Moulin Rouge!, RENT the musical, Della Resse’s R&B hit ‘Don’t You Know’? and more.
To access the 200 cent tickets, simply register on Opera Australia’s website and winners will be selected via a ballot system.
Winners will be drawn and notified on 8 February 2023, and will then have 48 hours to redeem and pay for their choice of one or two tickets at 200 cents each to a performance of La Bohème on an evening of their choosing (subject to availability).
