The Australian Haydn Ensemble (AHE) has revealed its latest spellbinding series, Heavenly Sopranos, which will illuminate stages across Sydney, regional NSW, and Canberra this April.

Two of Australia’s most illustrious sopranos and longstanding friends of AHE – Celeste Lazarenko and Helen Sherman – will join forces with AHE to deliver an unforgettable journey into the world of Baroque music.

Embark on a musical voyage through the timeless compositions of German maestro Johann Adolph Hasse and the masterpieces of Italian virtuoso Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, where every note resonates with celestial grace.

“This program features some absolute jewels of the Baroque period, including Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, thought by many to contain some of the most breathtakingly beautiful vocal writing of the period,” says AHE’s Founder and Artistic Director, Skye McIntosh.

“Having Celeste Lazarenko and Helen Sherman – two of Australia’s most brilliant exponents of both early and contemporary singing techniques – join us for this performance series is a true highlight for all of us.”

As a soloist, soprano Celeste Lazarenko has performed with the English National Opera, Opera North, English Touring Opera and East Sussex Opera before relocating back to Sydney, where she has performed in The Cunning Little Vixen for Victorian Opera; Castor et Pollux, Giasone, and L’amant jaloux for Pinchgut Opera; and Idomeneo, Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro for Opera Australia.

Taking equal billing alongside Lazarenko, mezzo-soprano Helen Sherman is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music, and has represented Australia in worldwide competitions, including the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World and Francisco Viñas International Singing Competition, impressing countless audiences in La Traviata, Farnace, Cosi fan tutte, Carmen and Don Giovanni.
