After the success of Astro and Matkim, David Bae and Kolture Group have brought us Beom Beom. Chef Lee, along with head chef Sunzoo Kwak (formerly of Madang), has crafted a menu that pays homage to Korean soul food while infusing it with a modern touch. Located in the space once occupied by Honey, Beom Beom caters to both the bustling CBD crowd during lunchtime and those looking for a lively evening dining experience.

Beom Beom Modern Korean at Darling Square

Chef Lee draws inspiration from his childhood in South Korea’s Jeolla Province and his professional journey through various Australian kitchens. "Beom Beom is a chance for me to reinterpret the Korean soul food I grew up with in a contemporary way," he says. "We aim to celebrate the rich flavours and traditions of Korean cuisine, known as 'hansik’, while embracing Sydney's diverse culinary scene."

The menu is a feast for the senses, featuring dishes like smoked galbi short ribs with scallion salad, tteokbokki with a twist of fish cake and baby octopus in a rose sauce, pork belly bossam with ssamjang, and Korean fried chicken available in original, sweet and spicy, or soy garlic. There’s also Shin Ramyun fried rice, perilla noodles, and a range of Korean-inspired drinks including soju, house-made Makgeolli, and innovative soju cocktails.

Beom Beom, which means ‘tiger’ in Korean, symbolises strength and protection. To embody this spirit, David Bae commissioned renowned Korean American artist Tommii Lim to create a mural that serves as the venue's centrepiece. Lim’s artwork reimagines a classic Korean folklore tale, adding a touch of good fortune and creativity to the space. The restaurant's design echoes a retro aesthetic inspired by Blade Runner’s cyberpunk vibe, complete with neon signage and a soundtrack of K-Pop, old school Korean tunes, and underground Korean RnB.

Beom Beom is open from Tuesday to Sunday, with lunch service from 11:30am to 3pm and dinner starting at 5pm.
