There’s a new taste test causing a stir across Australia’s foodie scene — and it’s not your average burger review. The Bloody Delicious Burger Challenge is asking a simple question that has food lovers (and sceptics) second-guessing every bite: Could you really pick a plant-based burger from the real deal?
The challenge has already clocked up more than 162,000 views on Instagram and TikTok, with some of the country’s biggest creators digging in — and their reactions say it all.

Aussie chef Iain “Huey” Hewitson, famous for his no-nonsense approach to cooking, threw together an Impossible Burger “with the lot” and was left floored. Sharing the moment with nearly 100,000 followers, Huey admitted that after years of cooking with red meat, he never thought a plant-based patty would hold its own — let alone taste “bloody delicious.”
Meanwhile, viral street-food creator Tom Sharpe was dared to give it a go. One bite later, he was a convert. “The char? Spot on. The juiciness? Unreal.” Not bad for something made from plants.

Even Sydney foodie and photographer Chester See got involved, telling his 200,000+ fans he couldn’t believe what he was eating. “Packed with protein and perfect for my gym days — plus, it actually tastes good.”
But beyond the viral reactions, this challenge is shaking up some deeply held doubts. According to research from Impossible Foods, over a quarter of Aussies still don’t believe plant-based meat can taste like the real thing. And one in five are sure it never could. Looks like they might need to take a bite and see for themselves.
