Chery is gearing up to expand its Australian lineup in November with the arrival of the Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid, a seven-seat plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that blends everyday practicality with high-end comfort and efficiency. Priced from $59,990, the Tiggo 9 sits at the top of Chery’s range, combining advanced hybrid technology with a premium fit-out.

As a PHEV, the Tiggo 9 can be charged like a fully electric vehicle, allowing it to run on battery power alone for shorter trips, while the petrol engine takes over for longer drives. Chery claims the new vehicle can offer up to 170 kilometres of electric-only driving and a total range of around 1,250 kilometres when the hybrid system is in play. Fuel consumption is rated at 1.4 litres per 100 kilometres and takes 95-octane premium unleaded or higher.

Under the bonnet, a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works in tandem with three electric motors (two located in the front and one at the rear), delivering 315kW and 580Nm through an all-wheel drive setup. So what does that mean? The setup provides quick acceleration, easy highway merging and a steady grip thanks to its all-wheel drive system.

The hybrid system is backed by a 34kWh battery, which should be enough to support most daily electric-only commutes.

Inside, the Tiggo 9 has been designed with comfort in mind. Heated, ventilated and massaging leather seats in both rows, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and a premium 14-speaker Sony sound system (including speakers built into the driver’s headrest) all come standard. The dual-screen setup (a 10.25-inch driver display and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen) runs Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, GPS navigation and Chery’s voice control system. There’s also a 50W wireless phone charger and a head-up display.

The Tiggo 9 introduces auto parking for the first time in the Chery range, taking care of tricky parallel and perpendicular spots on its own. A 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, forward collision warning and ten airbags round out the safety package.

On the outside, the Tiggo 9 wears Chery’s signature diamond grille, LED lighting across the front and rear, and 20-inch multi-spoke alloys. It’s available in four finishes: Aurora Green, Star White, Technical Grey and Cosmic Black, with retractable door handles adding a clean, modern touch.

All models come with Chery’s seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty, capped price servicing for seven years, and an eight-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty. Buyers who place a pre-order before 30 November can also take advantage of a limited-time offer that matches deposits between $500 and $2000.

The Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid PHEV looks set to make a strong entry into Australia’s competitive large SUV market when it lands in dealerships this November.
