Elijah Craig has launched a new Small Batch Bourbon designed specifically for Australia, marking the first time the Kentucky distillery has created a lower proof expression for any market. The 40 per cent release puts Australian drinkers at the forefront of Bourbon’s evolution, offering a more approachable pour without losing the depth and character that made the brand famous.

Crafted by Heaven Hill’s Master Distillers and matured in level 3 charred oak barrels, the new Small Batch balances silky layers of vanilla, caramel and sun-ripened fruit with toasted oak, finishing with a hint of spice and a trace of smoke. It’s been tailored for today’s drinkers, making it as comfortable in a highball or Old Fashioned as it is sipped neat.

The release comes at a time when Australians are embracing Bourbon at record pace. By lowering the alcohol by volume (ABV) and price point, Elijah Craig makes its award-winning whiskey more versatile and accessible while staying true to the craftsmanship and heritage behind the name. The move also speaks directly to the challenges of rising excise rates, giving bars and restaurants an easier, more cost-effective way to pour a quality Bourbon.

Golden amber in colour, the 40 per cent expression carries aromas of vanilla and summer fruits on the nose, before opening into smooth caramel and toasted oak on the palate. Gentle spice and soft smoke round out the finish, creating a Bourbon that appeals to newcomers while satisfying seasoned drinkers looking for a lighter style.

This new release sits alongside Elijah Craig’s existing Australian line-up, which includes Toasted Barrel, Barrel Proof, Straight Rye and the rare 18-Year-Old Single Barrel. Together they offer a complete spectrum of styles, from approachable to collector-level bottlings, cementing the distillery’s growing presence in Australia.

Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon 40 per cent is now available at Dan Murphy’s for $79.99.
