In March 2024, Lucy Clements, CEO & Managing Director of New Ghosts Theatre Company (NGTC), is set to direct the world premiere of Emily Sheehan’s Frame Narrative at the esteemed Old Fitz Theatre. This marks Clements’ debut production for NGTC in her first year as Artistic Director of the renowned basement theatre in Woolloomooloo. The play adds to NGTC’s distinguished repertoire of showcasing new Australian, women-centric works.

Frame Narrative is penned by the acclaimed Melbourne-based playwright Emily Sheehan, known for her recent success with Monument, which enjoyed a sold-out run and garnered critical acclaim, earning a ★★★★★ (On the House) rating in 2023.

What is the Frame Narrative about?

A revered filmmaker is doing the festival circuit for her latest cinematic adaptation of a literary classic; Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein. But a young critic accuses her of the inspiration landing too close to home. There must be a traumatic backstory to explain why she would want to tell such dark stories. Meanwhile, rumors about the treatment of the actors on set reveals tension between the film’s two leading ladies; a faded 90s horror scream queen and the Gen-Z it girl of psychological thrillers.
