If your camera roll is filled with crooked horizons, blurry shots, and unflattering angles courtesy of your partner, you’re far from alone. According to new research from FUJIFILM Australia, nearly nine in ten young Aussies think their loved ones are hopeless at taking photos of them. The findings highlight a nationwide issue of ‘Insta boyfriends’ and ‘photo fails’, from awkward poses to mid-blink moments, that often leave one half of a couple less than impressed.
To solve the problem, FUJIFILM Australia is stepping in with its first Picture Perfect Partners workshop, designed to turn even the most camera-shy or technically challenged partners into confident photographers. The one-day event takes place at the Fujifilm House of Photography in Sydney on Saturday, 25 October, with sessions running hourly from 10am to 3pm.

Led by photographer and creative director Ben Savage, the workshop combines practical guidance with hands-on experience using Fujifilm digital cameras. Attendees will learn how to frame, compose, and capture flattering shots, all while gaining insight into how lighting, angles, and connection can transform an image. A glam station will also be on-site to make sure couples look their best before stepping in front of the lens.
FUJIFILM Australia’s Head of Marketing, Leanne Hughes, says the idea came from a shared frustration many people have when they hand over their phone or camera, only to end up with unusable photos. The workshop, she explains, is about giving couples the tools and confidence to take great shots of each other, reducing those endless retakes and awkward re-dos.
For Savage, the opportunity to help people capture each other more thoughtfully goes beyond technique. He sees photography as a way of setting the tone for a moment; something that can make or break a mood. During the sessions, he’ll share his personal approach to shooting with intention, along with tips that make even casual photos look impressive.
