The ESCA Group has revealed its latest exciting venture – Joji, Sydney’s newest rooftop destination, located above the crossroads of George and King Street in the CBD. Vibrant and sophisticated, Joji is set to redefine rooftop lounging with its unique fusion of Japanese influences and contemporary city vibes.

The new venue embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics—simplicity, authenticity, and the beauty of imperfection (if you’re not familiar with this philosophy, look up the Japanese term, wabi-sabi). Joji has translated these principles into a rich cocktail and dining experience that shifts from serene daytime relaxation to lively, late-night energy that includes vinyl DJ sets and live performances.
Overlooking the Sydney CBD skyline, the expansive 310-square-metre space caters for all moods: a cocktail lounge for intimate gatherings, a chic dining area for immersive meals, and a terrace for panoramic city views. By day, it’s a tranquil retreat; by night, a space pulsing with positive energy.

Kerry Burgess, the Group Bar Manager for the ESCA Group has curated an impressive cocktail menu for Joji. The menu honours Japanese principles of shibui (elegant simplicity), wabi sabi (embracing imperfection), and datsuzoku (freedom from convention). Here, the ‘Bamboo’ cocktail balances unexpected flavours like tequila, tomato, and apricot for a truly unique taste, while a whisky highball offers simplicity in a glass. The 'Kiku Royale' is another outstanding cocktail, featuring Hennessy VS, umeshu, pineapple, chrysanthemum and bubbles. “Our cocktail philosophy at Joji is rooted in these principles where we honour tradition but aren't afraid to experiment with ingredients and flavour pairings that challenge the ordinary,” says Kerry.
With Executive Chef Paul Farag leading the kitchen, diners can indulge in modern Japanese-inspired dishes that are designed to share—from Robata-grilled favourites to playful twists on classics, like the Kingfish with umeboshi and yuzu kosho dressing or the bold Joji burger with Japanese wagyu bolognese on the late-night menu.
“We’ve designed the menu to be versatile, and utterly delicious, so whether guests are dropping in for a light snack, a full meal, or a late-night bite, Joji offers something that fits every occasion. It’s about creating a space where you can come for any event, any kind of outing, and feel at home,” says Paul Farag, Group Executive Chef, ESCA Group.
Must-try dishes include beef tartare, potato hash and nashi pear; scallop & bug sando with cabbage mayo; curry bread with Japanese curry sauce; and king prawn, bonito cream and pickled ginger.

Joji’s setting, crafted by acclaimed Australian architect Matt Darwon, is just as much an experience as the food and drinks. Warm Tasmanian blackwood tones, rich burgundy highlights, and sleek metallic accents form a sophisticated backdrop that captures the energy of the surrounding city.
ESCA Group Co-Founder, Ibby Moubadder says the team is excited to venture into a new space and open its first bar after three years in the making. “We have put our heart and soul into this venue so I can’t wait for Sydney to experience what we have created - a place where everyone is welcome to enjoy delicious food, world-class cocktails, and listen to some of the best music the city has to offer.”
