THE LUME Melbourne will host original pages from Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus on Australian soil for the very first time as part of its Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius exhibition. Arriving in early March, these pages will be unveiled to the public when the exhibition opens on 16 March 2024.

THE LUME Melbourne’s latest venture invites visitors to immerse themselves in the life and mind of Leonardo. Featuring priceless original pages from the Codex Atlanticus – personally penned by the master – the experience is set to be the most ambitious and immersive yet, appealing to visitors of all ages.

Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius

Highlights include meticulously crafted machine inventions brought to life by Italian artisans, an exact 360-degree replica of the Mona Lisa, a vast multi-sensory gallery spanning 3000 square meters, state-of-the-art AI and VR technologies animating Leonardo’s work, and a Renaissance-themed culinary journey at Caffé Medici.

As visitors traverse through the streets of Florence, the canals of Venice, the annals of Rome, the splendour of Milan, and culminate their expedition in Amboise, France, mirroring Leonardo’s own journey, they will gain profound insights into his inspirations, innovations, and lasting influence.

The Codex Atlanticus provides an unfiltered glimpse into the mind of history’s greatest polymath. Spanning from 1478 to 1519, it encompasses Leonardo’s sketches and writings, housed in Milan’s Biblioteca Ambrosiana since 1637. Each page reflects Leonardo’s pioneering spirit and visionary ideas, spanning subjects from architecture and engineering to flight and hydraulics, showcasing his timeless quest to reshape the world through innovative designs and inventions.
