The Melbourne Craft & Quilt Fair is back in 2025 with a refreshed line-up of exhibitions, hands-on workshops and community-driven moments, designed to inspire makers of all kinds.

Across the four-day program, visitors can explore everything from watercolour painting and candle making to embroidery, beading and egg decorating. This year’s workshop lineup is bigger than ever, with Make & Takes and Studio Sessions that offer a chance to try a new technique, refine a skill or walk away with a finished project.

In a first for the Melbourne event, The Knitters Lounge will make its debut. It’s a no-sales, no-pressure space where visitors can simply sit, knit or crochet, and connect. This addition is paired with the new Yarn & Thread Market, a curated marketplace spotlighting small-scale producers who work with fibre, yarn and thread. It’s designed to give independent makers a platform and give visitors access to beautifully made products they wouldn’t easily find elsewhere.

A series of installations will also bring the community aspect of craft to life. The Threaded Connections Wall invites attendees to contribute to a string art piece throughout the event, while the Community Inspiration Wall will collect personal stories about what drives people to create. When this wall first appeared in Sydney, it drew more than 200 handwritten notes, sketches and reflections, a reminder of how personal and powerful crafting can be.

Quilt lovers will be spoiled for choice. This year’s AQC Challenge centres around the theme On The Map, showcasing inventive interpretations from across the country. Alongside it, the Australian Quilt Show and the Victorian Quilters Showcase will display hundreds of works, each a detailed reflection of technique, colour, story and time.

The One Red Thread exhibition brings a more conceptual lens to fibre art. Centred around a single red thread as a symbol of connection and continuity, the collection explores themes of sustainability, cultural identity and shared experience.

Across the floor, visitors can drop in to free daily seminars hosted by experienced crafters and business owners. Topics range from colour theory and patchwork technique to creative small business advice. Artist Louise Saxton will also run a workshop on her signature ‘Momento Monogram’ piece, using reclaimed vintage textiles.

And of course, there’s the shopping. With aisles of specialty retailers showcasing the latest tools, yarns, fabrics, kits and patterns, the Fair offers a rare chance to stock up or discover something new, all under one roof.
