House of the Dragon actor Emma D’arcy has melted the internet by revealing her drink of choice – a Negroni Sbagliato with Prosecco in it. No doubt it’s the way D’arcy says it, but nevertheless, it caused many to google the exotic-sounding cocktail. Negroni Sbagliato translates to ‘wrong negroni’ but where did it originate?

What Emma D’Arcy just said…

How did the Negroni Sbagliato come about?

Legend has it, a Milanese bartender back in the 1970s mistakenly replaced gin with prosecco. The cocktail offers an effervescent twist on the classic negroni cocktail adding a more delicate flavour as well as reducing the amount of alcohol.

This cocktail is simple is make, but you want to make sure you use quality prosecco.  Santa Margherita Prosecco Superiore, which is available at Dan Murphy’s is perfect for the Negroni Sbagliato cocktail recipe below.

This stand-out sparkling wine is vibrant, aromatic, and fresh with fine, lively bubbles that dance in the glass. A bouquet of ripe peaches and delicate florals on the nose complemented with bright flavours of apples and fruity hints of pineapple on the palate.
