Carmen, one of the most popular and regularly performed operas in the world is due to hit Sydney in November 2022.

Opera Australia’s stunning production of Carmen is set to open on Cockatoo Island on 25 November, with Sydney Harbour providing a beautiful backdrop with its magnificent views.

Bold and sassy, you’ll fall under Carmen’s spell as she tosses her hair and stamps her feet. You’ll revel in the unforgettable music – most notably Bizet’s stirring march for the entrance of the bullfighters, the Toreador’s song. But also expect motorbike stunts, crashed cars and fireworks. You’d be right in thinking Carmen on Cockatoo Island is not your ordinary opera.

A night out on Cockatoo Island

Your adventure for the evening begins with a relaxing ferry ride across the harbour to the world-heritage-listed Cockatoo Island. Once you arrive, you’ll have the opportunity to share a glass of wine and snacks with friends before heading to your seats to enjoy what is considered one of the world’s greatest operas.

Ticket prices for Camen on Cockatoo Island start at $79 (B reserve) with the option to purchase return ferry trips for $20 per person (recommended as private water taxis are considerably more expensive).
