“After a rigorous process and consideration of innumerous books, the QBD Books team has jointly narrowed down to fifteen well-deserving titles. It was a very difficult decision, especially given the impressive calibre of titles released in 2024,” says Nick Croydon, CEO of QBD Books.

This year’s fiction category features a diverse lineup of novels that invite readers to explore the intricacies of human relationships, mystery, and memory. Among them are Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors and Intermezzo by Sally Rooney, both poignant, coming-of-age tales that delve into the themes of family and loss. On the flip side, fans of suspense are in for a treat with homegrown talents Christian White’s Ledge and Michael Robotham’s Storm Child, along with British sensation Richard Osman’s We Solve Murders, each promising heart-racing thrills and mind-bending mysteries.

For those drawn to the non-fiction category, there’s a number of memoirs to choose from that shine a light on the lives of iconic musicians. Cher's highly anticipated memoir, Cher: The Memoir, Part One, alongside John Farnham’s The Voice Inside and Kasey Chambers' candidly titled Just Don’t Be a D**khead, each offers a raw and intimate look at the highs and lows of their respective musical journeys. Foodies, too, can indulge in Nagi Maehashi’s bestselling cookbook RecipeTin Eats: Tonight, while Stephen Fry’s Odyssey reimagines Greek myths for modern readers with his signature wit.

Meanwhile, younger readers can enjoy books by Patrick Ness and Tim Miller's quirky Chronicles Of A Lizard Nobody to the comical escapades in Robin Hood Aged 10 3/4 by Ben Miller and Elisa Paganelli. Australian authors are well-represented with Stuart Wilson’s enchanting The 113th Assistant Librarian, Aaron Blabey’s latest instalment of The Bad Guys, and Sophie Beer’s beautifully illustrated Thunderhead.

The winners of QBD Books' 2024 Book of the Year shortlist are set to be revealed on November 1, just in time for holiday gift-giving.
