San San opens its second Sydney store on Saturday, 6 December and the team is marking the day by handing out free sandwiches to its first 40 customers. The new spot lands in North Strathfield and follows a rapid rise that started with a simple realisation among its founders: Sydney had plenty of sandwiches, but not the ones they were craving.

The concept came from a sibling trio who had spent a lot of time eating, critiquing and wishing for something better. After struggling to find a sandwich that genuinely delivered, they decided to make their own. The first San San opened in Revesby in March and immediately caught attention well beyond the local area.

In just eight months, the brand has drawn interest from people keen to franchise, shopping centres looking to partner, airport operators, and the usual mix of influencers, celebrities and food-obsessed Sydneysiders who love being early to a good thing.

San San’s appeal comes down to a tight formula. The bread is baked fresh daily using a recipe developed in-house, the fillings are unapologetically generous, and the sauces and lemonade are all made by the family, including a recipe passed down from their father-in-law.

Much of the produce even comes from their own farm in Picton. The menu rotates around a set of signature combinations with seasonal limited releases, and the dessert cabinet carries exclusive Cake Mail treats and soft-centred cookies.

Regulars have already crowned their favourites. The Mortadella, the OG Schnitty and Jonny’s Spicy BBQ tend to sell out first, and they’ll be on the lineup at the North Strathfield store.
