Small Acres Cyder, based outside of Orange, NSW in Nashdale, has added another chapter to its growing success story with a strong showing at the 2025 Japan Cider Cup. The team walked away with five medals, including three Gold, in a competition that drew entries from across 11 countries.

While flashy trends in flavoured brews dominate parts of the cider market, Small Acres has stayed firmly focused on its roots. The cidery specialises in full-juice ciders made from locally grown apples and pears, crafting its range using traditional techniques and a clear respect for orchard heritage.

Owner and cidermaker Nick Geoghegan says that staying true to this approach is what sets the brand apart. As others chase novelty, he and his team have doubled down on quality fruit, careful fermentations and the kind of refinement that takes patience. It’s a strategy that keeps paying off.

This year’s Gold medals went to their Heritage Blend, Pink Lady, and the Pommeau 2021, a spirit-style cider that continues to attract attention for its complexity and balance. Silver and Bronze followed for their Femme Fatale 2023 and Sparkling Perry 2022, rounding out a clean sweep for all entries submitted.

Small Acres Cyder Heritage Blend

It’s a fitting moment for Small Acres, which turns eighteen this year and celebrates five years under the stewardship of the Geoghegan family. The cellar door has become a favourite for visitors to the region, nestled in a part of NSW with a proud history of apple growing dating back to the 1800s.

The full range is available at the cellar door and online, with select distribution across the Central West and Sydney. If you’re yet to try Small Acres Cyder, these latest accolades might just be the nudge you need.

For those travelling in the region, Small Acres Cyder also offers the opportunity to stay at their cottage. Find out more here about the farm stay.
