Taste of Japan kicks off on Friday, 5 September at Smoke, the rooftop bar with panoramic views and a serious edge. For one night only, cult Perth favourite Papi Katsu will serve their playful take on Japanese dining. Menu items include Bluefin Tuna Gyoza Tacos, Karubi Skewers and Scampi Tartare on Crispy Chicken Skin, paired with inventive Nikka cocktails and a live DJ set.
Whisky lovers won’t want to miss ‘Share the Rare Hour’, every Friday in September. This is your chance to sample Nikka Decades, a rare blend drawn from nine decades of whisky-making history. With only 100 bottles in Australia, it’s an experience worth seeking out. A 15ml pour is $60, or go for 30ml at $120, served tableside from a sleek trolley. Pair it with karaage chicken and caviar for $50.

In mid-September, the action moves to Rekōdo for Ramen & Records. From 17 to 19 September, Newtown’s Rising Sun Workshop brings its cult ramen to Barangaroo, with a soundtrack of smooth jazz to set the mood. Choose from three signature bowls: The Light, The Darkness or The Monk, all priced at $20. Add izakaya-style snacks like pork and ginger gyoza, fried tofu with gochujang or classic chicken yakitori ($15 each).
Downstairs at House Bar, the vibe takes a playful turn with a Japanese convenience store concept. Grab a Tamago Egg Sando for $10, a Yakisoba-pan for $14 or a Tuna Onigiri for $8. Wash it down with an Asahi or a citrus-spiked Nikka Highball. Order two Asahis and you’ll get a spin on the vending machine for a chance to win Japanese snacks and exclusive merch.
