Mary’s is partnering with Australia’s premier cheese experts, Ellie and Sam Studd, to unveil The Punk Roquer. This tasty creation is inspired by their father, Will Studd, and his legendary battle for the French delicacy, Roquefort.

The Punk Roquer features Mary’s iconic Fat Patty topped with Le Roi Roquefort, black onion chutney, and crispy fried potato straw, combining gourmet indulgence with a punk rock spirit. Available at all Mary’s locations (Newtown, Victoria Cross, Circular Quay, EQ, and Castle Hill), it delivers a bite of history with every mouthful.

But what makes this collaboration truly special is the story behind it. Will Studd, affectionately dubbed the 'Roquefort Rebel', waged a culinary war to overturn the 2005 Australian ban on Roquefort cheese—a ban imposed by the Food Standards Australia New Zealand. Studd’s victory wasn’t just for lovers of fine cheese; it marked a win for food artisans and enthusiasts alike. Studd even staged a mock funeral for 70 kilograms of banned cheese in a memorable protest, complete with a hearse draped in the French flag.

Made from raw milk in the Aveyron region of France, this ancient cheese has been crafted by hand for over 2,000 years, preserving traditional methods in a small, dedicated dairy. As one of the few remaining raw milk blue cheeses in the world, its rich, tangy flavour is a testament to history and artistry.

Now, thanks to Mary’s and the Studd siblings, you can experience this legendary cheese unexpectedly and deliciously.
