The age-old debate over the origins of the lamington has taken a delicious turn, thanks to an exciting collaboration between Whittaker’s and Tokyo Lamington. Is it a Kiwi creation, or does it belong to Australia? While the argument may never be settled, chocolate lovers on both sides of the ditch can at least agree on one thing - these new lamingtons are worth savouring.

Available from Friday, 21 March, the limited-edition range features three inventive takes on the classic sponge-and-chocolate treat, each paying homage to a fan-favourite Whittaker’s chocolate block.

There’s the Coconut Block Lamington, a nod to the beloved Whittaker’s Coconut Block. This one is for the Aussies, packed with rich, creamy coconut flavour and coated in a velvety chocolate layer.

Then there’s the Creamy Milk Lamington, a tribute to New Zealand’s most popular Whittaker’s block. Smooth, indulgent, and utterly irresistible, it takes the essence of Whittaker’s Creamy Milk and transforms it into a bite-sized masterpiece.

But the real wildcard is The People’s Choice Lamington, an ever-evolving flavour chosen by the public through a voting process. This one gives dessert lovers a chance to shape the debate and add their own twist to the ongoing rivalry.

"At Tokyo Lamington, we’re all about reimagining the classic lamington, and we couldn’t be more excited to work with Whittaker’s to settle The Great Lamington Debate,” says Eddie Stewart, Co-Founder of Tokyo Lamington.

“We’ve put our unique spin on two of New Zealand and Australia’s favourite Whittaker’s blocks, and we can’t wait to share these delicious creations with our community. We’re inviting all Chocolate Lovers to join the conversation, enjoy some amazing flavours, and help decide the ultimate lamington champion.”

Available individually or as a three-pack ($24) until 4 April at all three Tokyo Lamington stores.
